WATCH BIG RIB RIVER BROOK TROUT July 2, 2009, Fished the Category 5 section of the Big Rib River below Hwy 64 in north central Wisconsin. A very scenic stream good for brook trout and supposedly some big brown trout (20") although we didn't get any browns this day. Also show some pics of the upper section which features good action for slightly smaller brook trout.
DUNCAN CREEK: BROOK TROUT & SEA LAMPREY Another old video of mine, this shows Duncan Creek in west central Wisconsin and some of the many brook trout that live there. Filmed April 20, it also shows a bunch of sea lamprey that use Duncan Creek as a spawning tributary, swimming up from the Chippewa River. This is around county highway SS, where there is a public fishing lease on the land.
WATCH ELK CREEK BROWN TROUT An old video from before I got a professional camera, this gives a good view of Elk Creek in west central Wisconsin. While the upper part of the stream and most surrounding streams are known for their brook trout fishing, the lower section of Elk Creek below Hwy 94 is a very good brown trout stream. There are some no trespassing signs in the area but as the stream is easily waded and flows through mostly uninhabited woods with several bridge crossings access is not difficult.
WATCH HALLS CREEK Halls Creek, also known as Stockholm Creek, flows thru Jackson County in West Central Wisconsin and offers 10 miles of class II trout water. It is a tributary of the Black River and has a good amount of public land and easements along it. Most of the bottom is sand with a little gravel. Casting conditions can be a bit tight and at times the stream is difficult to fish but there are some decent brown trout in these waters.
WATCH SOUTH FORK HAY RIVER BROOK TROUT This is an old video I made before I got a professional camera. Located in west central Wisconsin, the SF Hay River is a very good brook trout stream. The upper portion you see in the video has a high density population of brook trout. The lower portion has fewer brook trout but they get a lot larger. That lower section can be a little too deep for easy wading and I am not sure if there are any public easements along it.
WATCH SOUTH FORK MAIN CREEK BROOK TROUT This is an old video from before I got my professional cameras. The South Fork of Main Creek located in west central Wisconsin (could also be put in the NW part of WI) is a fine brook trout stream. The brookies are native, naive and numerous and I was catching them up to nine inches - nice! There have been habit improvements from Trout Unlimited. The stream is a little unqiue in that there are few other trout streams in the vicinity. That area of Wisconsin is mostly warm water. You will want to wear felt sole wading boots as the bottom has some very slippery cobblestone.
WATCH SOPER CREEK Soper Creek is a class 2 trout stream in west central Wisconsin offering 8 miles of trout fishing opportunity. It is part of the Big Creek recreation fisheries area and is surrounded by an abundance of public land. This central part of Wisconsin is known for having a lot of sand, and as you can see the stream has an almost entirely sand bottom. Brook trout are the fish here. Although I didn't catch anything I did see several brook trout. So, there aren't a lot of fish here, but they are some here. |
